Singer Akon is the proud owner of NASCAR’s newest team, Akon Motorsports and has tapped into racer Joe Henderson III as his star driver. In fact, Henderson recently raced at the NASCAR Pro Series East at Langley Speedway in Virginia.
“I got into motorsports because I’ve always had a love for cars. Cars were always something that gave me that excitement and that rush for life,” said Akon about the new venture. “That was what really motivated me to get into motorsports.”
Besides that, NASCAR’s got a lot of money invested. According to Forbes, some of the leading teams are worth in the 100s of millions. Hendrick Motorsports is currently worth the sports most valuable team with a net worth of $357 million.

In June, Cadillac returned to co-sponsor the 2013 American Black Film Festival (ABFF) again– this time as a premiere sponsor. Over the years, Cadillac has gradually increased their support of the ABFF, one of the most noteworthy film festivals for African-Americans in the country. As a Premier Sponsor, Cadillac not only provided shuttle service from the primary hotel to the various movie theaters showing the ABFF films, they also hosted a Cadillac Lounge that provided daily entertainment and celebrity appearances. The biggest news, however, is that Cadillac gave an award at ABFF as well.

Film Life’s 17th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), wrapped an engaging five days, June 19 – 23, of substantive program of diverse films, industry panels and educational workshops and events yesterday. Celebrating 10 years in Miami Beach, the Festival was created to support the promotion of diversity within the film and television industry, both in front of and behind the camera. The Festival drew to a close with the ABFF Awards Presentation where this year’s film and talent competition winners were revealed.
The five-day celebration was heavily supported by Hollywood’s top actors and was led by this year’s Celebrity Ambassador Omari Hardwick. Spike Lee, Robert Townsend, Bill Duke, Nia Long, Derek Luke, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Nick Cannon, Morris Chestnut, Boris Kodjoe, David E. Talbert, Roger Bobb, Sanaa Lathan, Anthony Anderson, Terrence Jenkins, Shaun Robinson, Reggie Bythewood, George Tillman, Jr. and Kevin Hart all participated in lively panel discussions and other Festival events. This year’s ABFF was also attended by Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem and Lebron James, the 2013 NBA Finals champions.

Film Life’s 17th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), recently announced its official slate of films, including Opening and Closing Night screenings, Gala screenings along with selections for the Narrative Features Competition, HBO® Short Film Competition and CNN Films Documentary Competition. The Festival will be held in Miami Beach, FL, June 19-23, 2013.
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, from Codeblack Films, a LIONSGATE® company, opens the festival, featuring a stellar cast including Skylan Brooks, Ethan Dizon, Jordin Sparks (Sparkle), Jeffrey Wright (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World) with Anthony Mackie (Pain & Gain, The Hurt Locker) and Academy Award®-winner Jennifer Hudson (“Smash,” Sex and the City 2, Dreamgirls). The film, directed by George Tillman, Jr. (Notorious, Soul Food), was co-executive produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning singer Alicia Keys. This unique and affecting film is a coming of age story about two boys trying to survive the summer in their Brooklyn housing projects without parental supervision (pictured).
